How do you serve children and families?

Youth Horizons serves kids and families through three different avenues: the mentoring program, the Kinloch Price Boys Ranch, and public presentations. The mentoring program matches boys and girls between the ages of 5 -14 with a Christian mentor that commits to spending one-on-one time with them. The Kinloch Price Boys Ranch is a group home residence for boys between the ages of 10-18 who are in need of out-of-home placement. Youth Horizons also educates the public about the needs of at-risk children in our community and the nation. This is accomplished through presentations to church groups, civic gatherings, and school assemblies.

What is an at-risk child?

In our program, an at-risk child is defined as a young person who is either 1) fatherless, 2) living in a single-parent home, 3) has been referred through a social service agency, or 4) has a parent that is incarcerated or on parole. Of the boys and girls we currently serve, over 80 percent of them are being raised without the influence of their father.

Where do your children come from?

Youth Horizons’ kids are referred through many different avenues. One way would be through their schoolteacher or counselor. Another potential referral would be through a social service agency, such as Comcare, DCCCA, or Youthville. Some referrals come directly from a parent who is reaching out and wanting extra assistance for their child.

Is Youth Horizons only located in Wichita?

Youth Horizons’ mentoring program serves children in Wichita and surrounding areas. The Kinloch Price Boys Ranch accepts youth from throughout the country. Though Youth Horizons is only located in Wichita, we are a part of the Christian Association of Youth Mentoring (CAYM), a national association of non-profit mentoring programs.

How is Youth Horizons funded?

Youth Horizons is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Most of our funding comes from private donors. Some give on a monthly basis, while others give annually. A small portion of our funding comes through grants, church mission funding, and speaking engagements. Income from our two largest community events, the Christmas Benefit Concert and the Easter Sun Run, also provide a portion of the budget.
